my thoughts on going green
In March 2007 I decided to join the green movement that is taking this country and the world by storm. I decided to recycle for a profit all metals, paper, newspaper, clothing and cardboard that my family comes in contact with. The bummer is that the metro New Orleans area does not have a plastic or glass recycling plant that accepts and pays for these two recyclables. I could make a lot more money if could sell glass and plastic. All of the money that I generate from my recycling goes into my kids piggy bank, toiletries, gas, savings, and college funds. I have three boys. I have trained them, my husband, mom, dad, sister, and inlaws about how to recycle. I have a weekly pickup of materials at my families homes. Recycling is fun, profitable, and it makes me feel like I am making a difference in the world. Every day I will talk about my adventures in recycling. Yesterday my parents gave my husband and I an old washer and dryer. My husband and I loaded the kids in our Tundra and went to the recycling plant and we got a whopping $36 and change for both items. That $36 dollars went a long way too. This morning I did some sorting and are in the process of planning my next drop off. With the economy in the tanks, recycling is a great way to scrape up some money for toiletries, gas, etc. I also went to the trift store and found some never worn Ralph Lauren shorts for my 10 year old. I rarely shop retail buying gently used clothes keeps them in commerce longer and out of the landfill. Happy Recycling!!
